There comes a time in every girls life, when we just want some flowers. Bright, beautiful, sometimes fragrant, potted, long stems, red, pink, purple, yellow and lots of greenery. Now, you should definitely not be sad if you aren’t receiving flowers from someone, I say take things into your own hands.
Trader Joe’s is the best place for flowers (aside from my mother’s garden during the summer). For $20 you can have a dozen roses or little nosegay bouquets all over your house (the bathroom is a great place to put flowers and often we don’t think about it). I do not say this to upset my florist friends, I do have some BUT, if you are looking for a little pick me up, this is the perfect WOMENT, and so easy too. Gentlemen….take this free information and use it (LOL). When I arrive home (sometimes with 3 bouquets) I use a variety of cups and vases I have and place them around my house. As long as it holds water, it will hold a flower.
Stepping up a bit
Today I was placing an order for a friend and I felt like splurging a bit. Farm Girl Flowers, was my florist of choice today. I’ve been following her on social (mainly Instagram) and I have to say, compared to the high-end customer service Nordstrom was always known for the owner of FGF stepped up and it caught my eye.
Around Valentine’s Day there was a lot of weather moving through the country, which led to a lot of delays. For floral and food businesses, delivery is especially important. Delivery needs to be fast and the flowers need to arrive as if they were just picked. When a perfect storm brews, it makes it extremely difficult.
Christina, the owner, took to Social Media and made it right to all the customers who ordered flowers for their loved ones and they were late. She was apologetic (even though it was out of her control), sincere and was offering ways to make it right. Engaging with customers and FGF made changes to the business because of this extraordinary weather event. I admired her honesty and reaching out to her consumer for forgiveness and asking them for trust again, when they wanted to order flowers for future occasions.
Some friends also noticed Christina’s social media videos, it worked. I just ordered my first shipment of flowers from FGF. I can’t wait! Supporting a small business like FGF whose customer service is #1 is my cup of tea. I will be busy this week, before I receive them, I will probably forget I ordered them and what a nice surprise they will be.
New York City, I miss you
In New York City, one of the things I love, are the corner bodegas with all the flowers out side. My favorite street to stay on is 28th street. It’s NYC’s garden market. Floral shops, plants and tree lined streets, inventory of vases and outdoor décor. It’s really a departure from the rest of the city and a perfect start to your day. It makes me happy.
The other thing that I love and look forward to walking through again is Macy’s iconic flower show every spring. The first floor of the department store is transformed into what seems like an Alice in Wonderland world of flowers. The visual effects people at that store really have their work cut out for them. I suggest you go as soon as they open or late in the day so you aren’t run over by shoppers.
Spring is coming, stop and smell the flowers.
