During the summer at some point, I was speaking to Lara and joking around that I needed a new work Husband. I’ve been known as a work wife, in fact it was a joke that I was my coworker’s, work wife (yes, his whole family is aware of this joke).
It’s what happens when you spend the better part of your waking life at your job. My work husband was a mentor of mine in the very early stages of my career. But eventually, he must’ve been too good of a mentor because I made it my mission for my sales to pass his.
My work husband and I, worked together for 18 years: 5 days a week, minus some travel NOT together, vacations NOT together, sick days NOT together and weekends NOT together, that amounts to about 3,996 days give or take. WOW, that’s a lot of time!
We didn’t always sit directly next to one another. I was a peer in a different division. Eventually thou we were tapped to start a department. This is where the battle of wills ensued. Both stubborn, both thinking they are right, both thinking they know best, both passionate professionals about their jobs. I mean if this was a real marriage it would be doomed for sure.
Roles and Responsibilities
What is the role of the work wife or work husband? Well, like any good marriage, keep the other person on the straight and narrow and get them back to their loved ones in one piece. Help with the luggage, make sure everyone has their passports, make sure they get home safely especially in a foreign country after having some cocktails, make sure they are on time for appointments, and finally most important, have the other persons back.
Yes, a traditional two person marriage is great and most people follow that option. But just sayin’…what if we had Work Husbands, House Husband’s and Date Night Husbands. LOL
