It all sounds so glamorous! Paris, New York, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Bangalore, Mauritius, Madagascar, the list goes on. Sure, if you’re lucky enough to hang in Emirates first, arriving rested, refreshed, breeze through customs, on to an entourage to whisk you away to the spa at the hotel. In our dreams!
Sure, travel is full of wonder and amazing experiences, but let’s get real. The extreme destinations sound so glamorous, but we have learned through so many WOMENTS together that it’s all about the journey. Anytime we have hit that point of wondering if we can put one foot in front of the other on a trip, we just look at each other and say GLAMOUR!
So, here’s the reality.
1. Packing 14 days of great outfits in the most intricate way possible to obtain minimal baggage. It’s going to hurt lifting that bag after flying for 30 hours. Wait, don’t forget the change of clothes and underwear.. always in the carry on. Which leads me to the next point..
2. The 15 hour flight from New York to Dubai is delayed.. your missing the connection from Dubai to Mauritius. We finally get to Dubai..YES! Now what?…not going to Mauritius just yet. There’s a category 3 cyclone hitting the island..did I mention that change of underwear, toothpaste at least? which leads to point…
3. We’ll call you when you’re next flight is scheduled. Just wait for a wake up call. Yep, my clothes could walk on their own about now. Phone rings at 1:00 am, we’re ready to go! Get to the airport hotel check out..false alarm. The cyclone is getting bigger, we’ll call you tomorrow morning for the next flight out. Did I mention deodorant too? Which leads me to…
4. Please God, not the 4th hotel buffet in a row. Imodium anyone? We’re prepared, practically a walking pharmacy amongst a group of seasoned travelers. But best of all, the next point..
5. To get through it all, a whirlwind tour of a city we’ve never seen, a quick walk on the beach, so many laughs, a glass of wine with friends, our favorite red lipstick and knowing we’re all in it together. The WOMENTS get us through all of the glamour every time.
